To qualify candidates must have education and training as an engineer, designer, or drafter and have Alberta work experience in an Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program eligible engineering occupation.

The Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) is designed to assist employers who are unable to recruit Canadian citizens or permanent residents to fulfill their recruitment needs.

Successful immigrant applications under this scheme pave the way for successful Canadian immigration to the province of Alberta and the gaining of permanent residency status. In addition it meets the needs of attracting and retaining needed foreign workers.



Criteria for AINP Candidates under the Strategic Recruitment Stream - Engineering Occupations includes:

  • Must be currently residing in Alberta and must intend to live permanently in Alberta.
  • Be able to provide evidence of related education/training and experience as an engineer, designer, or drafter.
  • If the Candidate has engineering credentials, the Candidate must provide a “Letter of No Objection” from the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists, and Geophysicists of Alberta (APEGGA) or demonstrate that they are registered with APEGGA as a foreign licensee;
  • Must be currently working or have worked within the last two years in Alberta.
  • The Candidate’s occupation in Alberta must be on the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) Strategic Recruitment Stream – Engineering Occupations List as below:

    • Electrical and Electronics Engineers
    • Chemical Engineers
    • Industrial and Manufacturing Engineers
    • Mining Engineers
    • Geological Engineers
    • Petroleum Engineers
    • Civil Engineering Technologists and Technicians
