The tourism/hospitality, food processing and long-haul trucking industries play an important part British Columbia’s export-oriented economy, and are experiencing ongoing labour shortages.



Requirements for applying to the strategic (semi-skilled) occupations component of the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program include:

  • The employer has offered, and the nominee candidate has accepted, permanent, full-time employment in a semi-skilled occupation whereby:
    • The candidate is suitably qualified to do the job and the remuneration package offered is commensurate with British Columbia wages.
    • The field of employment offers good long term prospects.
    • The employer must have a history of good practices, be financially sound and must have been operating in BC for at least one year and have at least five paid employees.
    • The employment of a foreign worker will be of significant economic benefit to British Columbia.
    • The potential for nominee candidates to become economically established in British Columbia

Applicants must have been employed in an eligible occupation by the sponsoring company on a temporary work permit for at least 9 months immediately prior to the date of application to the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP).

  • Other Elemental Service Occupations
    • Dry Cleaning and Laundry Occupations (Hotels/Resorts only)
    • Ironing, Pressing and Finishing Occupations (Hotels/Resorts only)

Long-Haul Trucking
  • Applications will only be considered from applicants in the long haul trucking industry that have been employed by the sponsoring company for 9 months immediately prior to the application and can demonstrate 2 years long haul trucking experience with a valid British Columbia class one driving licence.

  • Applications will only be considered from applicants in the food processing industry that have been employed by the sponsoring company for 9 months immediately prior to the application and in the following eligible occupations:
