The Canadian Experience Class


The Canadian Experience Class allows for Immigration to Canada for migrants who have either studied or undertaken temporary work in Canada. The Canadian experience allows for migrants to progress from a temporary visa to permanent residency based upon their familiarity with Canadian society. The immigration applicant should also be able to demonstrate the relevant language skills and work experience


Prospective immigrants to Canada are assessed under the Canadian Experience permit according to the following criteria:  
  • Upon successful immigration to Canada, they plan to live in any province other than Quebec.
  • Must have either 2 years skilled work experience in Canada or be a foreign graduate from a Canadian learning institution with at least 1 year’s skilled work experience.
  • Apply while working in Canada or within 1 year of leaving your job in Canada.
  • Have been on a legitimate permit or visa while gaining the experience (work or study).

Please note that skilled working experience is classified as occupations with skill levels O, A and B by the The National Occupation Classification (NOC).  
  • 0 = Managerial
  • A = Professionals
  • B = Technical occupations and skilled trades

Assessment basis for the Canadian Experience Class: Workers:
Prospective immigrants seeking permanent residency will be assessed against 2 criteria:
  • Skilled work experience
  • Language skills in English and French

Where the applicant has graduated in Canada and carried out skilled work experience in Canada, Education will also be assessed in addition to the above two criteria.
