Prospective immigrants to Manitoba may consider the category of the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP) that caters for Strategic Initiatives. If the prospective immigrant is successful under this category it will result in the issuing of a provincial nomination certificate.

The Strategic Initiatives component of the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP) is designed to assist the province meet the objectives of the Canadian Manitoba Immigration Agreement.

Immigrant applications that receive nomination under this scheme pave the way for successful Canadian immigration to the province of Manitoba and the gaining of permanent residency status.



Requirements for Applying to the Strategic Initiatives Component of the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP) include:

  • Recruitment missions – overseas employment/immigration fairs are held where MPNP interviews foreign skilled workers and invites them to apply
  • Exploratory visits – MPNP may invite people who have undertaken a pre-approved Exploratory Visit and passed an interview with a program officer
  • International students – students who are eligible for graduation from a Manitoba school program of at least two years may apply up on registration for the Manitoba Employment Readiness Program. The Following applicants are not eligible:
    • Master's degree graduates of programs less than two years
    • former graduates who have now gone back to school on full-time basis
    • accelerated program graduates (completed two-year program in one year)
    • graduates who transferred from another province and have not studied in Manitoba for two years
