NSNP AGRI-FOODS SECTOR STREAM


The Agri-Food Sector Stream is aimed at recruiting potential migrants interested in agri-food primary production and/or value added production. The stream provides an opportunity to strengthen rural communities by creating jobs and growing the economy by bringing agricultural skills to the province of Nova Scotia. This stream is a joint-venture pilot project being undertaken by the NS Office of Immigration and the NS Dept. of Agriculture.

APPLICANT CRITERIA UNDER THE NSNP AGRI-FOODS SECTOR STREAM


To be eligible under this category, the applicant must:

  • have legal status in their country of residence
  • be between the ages of 21 and 55
  • have completed the equivalent of secondary school with a minimum 12 years of education from a recognized institution and/or authority
  • provide proof of sufficient skills in English and/or French language to be employable and functional upon arrival in the province of NS
  • have a minimum of three-years experience in farm ownership, management, or practical farming experience
  • have marketable skills to supplement farm income (or the spouse of the primary applicant)
  • have a minimum personal net-worth of $150,000 CAD AFTER relocation to the province of Nova Scotia, PRIOR to the purchase of a farm
  • make a minimum equity investment of $100,000 CAD in a new or existing farming operation in capital assets or working capital
  • plan to establish, purchase, or invest in an existing farm business. If the applicant invests in an existing farm business, they must control a minimum of 33.3%, and take an active part in the day-to-day operations of the business
  • submit a detailed agri-business plan with the application, which demonstrates a minimum annual revinue of $10,000 CAD
  • make an exploratory visit to the province of NS for a minimum of five days in length, during which time the applicant is expected to meet with representatives from both the NS PNP and NS Dept. of Agriculture
