International Students/ Graduates Program for Ontario

 

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS WITH JOB OFFER


Students who have or will soon graduate from an eligible public college or university in Canada and whose studies were more than half completed in Canada may be eligible to apply for permanent residence through the Ontario Provincial Nomination Program.

Applicants must have have studied full-time for two year and completed a degree or diploma, or if they had a previous degree or diploma (either in Canada or abroad), they must have completed a one-year post-graduate degree or certificate program. Previous work experience is not necessary.

The following are also required:
  • Ontario full-time permanent job offer in NOC 0, A or B (not necessarily in field of study) whose wage is equal to the usual entry level wage for that occupation
  • apply either during the last term of their academic program or within 24 months of receiving their degree or diploma
  • Legal status if in Canada (may apply from abroad as well).

It should be noted that CIDA students and student on scholarships that require them to return to their home countries are not eligible to apply.

MASTER'S GRADUATE CATEGORY
 

If you are a graduate or will soon be graduating from a Master's program in Ontario, you may be eligible to apply for nomination under the Master's Graduate Category without a job offer. In order to qualify under the Master's Graduate Category, the applicant must

  • intend to live and work in the province of Ontario
  • Have graduated from an existing Master's program at an eligible publically funded university in Ontario
  • Have completed a minimum of one academic year degree program while studying on a full-time basis
  • Apply within two years of the date on which their Master's degree was granted, or  alternatively, during the last semester of completing their degree
  • Currently reside in Ontario
  • Have legal status in Canada
  • Demonstrate a high official language proficiency (overall band score of 7 on IELTS, or 5 on TEF)
  • Demonstrate a level of savings and/or income sufficient to support themselves and their dependants
  • Demonstrate at least one year of residence in Ontario in the past two years
It should be noted that International students subsidized through CIDA Grants or home country scholarships with return obligations will not be deemed eligible for the Ontario program unless such obligations have been fulfilled.

INTERNATIONAL PHD GRADUATES

If you are a graduate of a PhD program in one of Ontario's publicly funded universities, you may be eligible to apply for nomination under the International PhD Graduates category without a job offer.

In order to qualify for the International PhD Graduates Category, the applicant must
  • Have graduated from an existing PhD program at an eligible publicly funded university in Ontario,
OR
  • Have successfully completed all degree requirements for the program (i.e. completion of course work and successful defense of their thesis and are awaiting the granting of the degree) AND
  • Have competed at least two years of their PhD studies at an eligible publicly funded university in the province of Ontario
  • Apply within two years of the date on which the PhD degree was granted
  • Have legal status, if the PhD Graduate applicant is currently in Canada
