Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program - Business Impact Category - Three Streams
There are three streams for the prospective business applicants to choose from:
- 100% Ownership Stream
- Partial Ownership Stream
- Work Permit Stream
100% Ownership Stream Criteria
The 100% Ownership Stream is for applicants who have solid business acumen and entrepreneurial drive. The stream requires an approved applicant to obtain 100% control of a business through the start of a new business, or a purchase of an existing business. Active and ongoing management to the business must be provided by the applicant from within Prince Edward Island.
For a successful application under the 100% Ownership Stream, the applicant must:
- satisfy the age, education, work experience, adaptability and language skills necessary to run a business in PEI
- show IELTS test result from within the last 3 years. In order to obtain approval on language ability applicants must achieve a CLBPT equivalent result of CLBPT 5 from their IELTS test. People scoring below CLBPT 5 must sign a language deposit agreement and deposit $20,000
- submit a business proposal with application and a business plan after the exploratory visit
- submit a settlement proposal outlining the desire to move and settle in Prince Edward Island.
- Have a legally obtained personal net worth of at least $400,000 CAD
- invest $150,000 CAD investment to start or buy an eligible business in Prince Edward Island.
- have $100,000 CAD unencumbered personal funds to make the escrow deposit.
- have sufficient unencumbered personal funds to make the required investment, operate the business for at least one year, and settle in Prince Edward Island.
- sign an escrow agreement with the Province of PEI and deposit $100,000 CAD held in escrow,
- control 100% of the business.
- actively manage the business from within Prince Edward Island on an ongoing basis.
- not include a redemption option in the investment terms
- If acquiring 100% of an eligible Prince Edward Island business,provide a purchase/sale agreement stating desire to purchase the business.
Partial Ownership Stream Criteria
The Partial Ownership Stream is for applicants who would prefer to transition into the Prince Edward Island business community by partially owning a business.
For a successful application under the Partial Ownership Stream, the applicant must:
- satisfy the age, education, work experience, adaptability and language skills necessary to run a business in PEI
- show IELTS test result from within the last 3 years. In order to obtain approval on language ability applicants must achieve a CLBPT equivalent result of CLBPT 5 from their IELTS test. People scoring below CLBPT 5 must sign a language deposit agreement and deposit $20,000
- submit a business proposal with application and a business plan after the exploratory visit
- submit a settlement proposal outlining the desire to move and settle and partially own a business in Prince Edward Island.

Work Permit Stream
The Work Permit Stream allows applicants to begin working and learning about the business they will be investing in prior to nomination by the Province of Prince Edward Island.
- satisfy the age, education, work experience, adaptability and language skills necessary to run a business in PEI
- show IELTS test result from within the last 3 years. In order to obtain approval on language ability applicants must achieve a CLBPT equivalent result of CLBPT 5 from their IELTS test. People scoring below CLBPT 5 must sign a language deposit agreement and deposit $20,000
- submit a business proposal with application and a business plan after the exploratory visit
- submit a settlement proposal outlining the desire to move and settle and partially own a business in Prince Edward Island.
