Skilled Workers Permit for Yukon
Skilled workers seeking immigration to Canada that wish to reside in Yukon can apply under the Yukon Nominee Program, category Skilled Workers.
The Yukon Nominee Program is designed to assist employers who are unable to recruit Canadian citizens or permanent residents to fulfill their recruitment needs.
The program is intended to identify individuals who have the capability of making a significant economic contribution to a Yukon business, industry or community. The program is designed to attract qualified individuals that will assist with shortages of skilled workers in the Territory.
Skilled workers are those professions that require a formal education and/ or specialized training. The national occupation classification (NOC) defines these as professions that fall under the skills level O, A or B.
The Skilled Worker Program is an employer driven process. The employer must have a job vacancy and identify a potential nominee
A successful immigrant application under this scheme paves the way for successful Canadian immigration to the province of Yukon and the gaining of permanent residency status. In addition it meets the needs of attracting and retaining needed foreign workers.
Yukon Nominee Program - Skilled Workers Criteria
- The employer must have the appropriate registrations and have been operational for a minimum of one year.
- For all occupations, except those in the Skills Shortage List, the employer must prove both the need for the position and that efforts have been made to recruit locally and nationally to fill the position.
- The offer of employment must be for a permanent full-time position in an occupation that falls within skill levels O, A or B of the National Occupational Classification Matrix. The remuneration and benefits package offered should be in line with prevailing labour market standards in the Yukon.
- The foreign national seeking nomination must satisfy all requirements of the position as specified in the National Occupation Classification
- The foreign national must pass either the IELTS or TEF examination prior to applying to the Yukon PNP. In order to qualify for a NOC 0 or A position, the applicant must score a minimum of 6 for IELTS, or 4 for TEF. In order to qualify for a NOC B position, the applicant must score a minimum of 5 for IELTS, or 3 for TEF
- The foreign national must prove they have sufficient funds to settle in the Yukon. This can be either from assets (minimum $10,000 CAD for the primary applicant, with an additional $2,000 CAD for each accompanying family member), OR through a notarized Affidavit of Support from a relative to the foreign national who is residing in the Yukon.
